Finding the perfect balance, bikes Gear, and adventure
Running a mobile bike repair business like Nomadic Cycles is an adventure in itself—one day, I’m tuning a high-performance enduro rig, and the next, I’m fixing a well-loved commuter bike that’s seen better days. It’s just me, my tools, and a constant mission to keep bikes (and their owners) happy. But, as much as I love it, the past year has been a financial rollercoaster, and I realized it was time to shake things up a bit.
I started looking for a part-time job to keep things steady. A few bike shops seemed like an option, but most saw a conflict of interest with my own business. Just when I was wondering what to do next, I stumbled upon a role that seemed like a perfect fit—a job at Bivouac Outdoor, where I could share my passion for hiking, tramping, bikepacking, ski touring, and splitboarding.
After introducing myself to Leon, the 2IC, I nervously filled out the application form. Knowing how many people apply for these kinds of roles, I felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. But after an interview and a bit of waiting, I got the call—I was in! Part-time at Bivouac Outdoor, alongside running Nomadic Cycles.
The team at Bivouac is fantastic, and I love being part of a crew again. With Nomadic Cycles, it’s just me, the tools, and the occasional attempt at convincing bikes to behave (sometimes with gentle persuasion, sometimes with a bit of tough love). At Bivouac, I get to chat with customers, hear about their upcoming adventures, and help them find the right gear for their missions—whether it’s a rugged multi-day tramp or a fresh powder chase.
For me, Nomadic Cycles and Bivouac Outdoor are the perfect blend. One keeps me hands-on with bikes, the other lets me geek out over outdoor gear and connect with fellow adventurers. It’s a win-win, and I’m stoked to be part of both.
Here’s to keeping bikes running smooth, helping people gear up for epic adventures, and making 2025 a year full of good rides, great missions, and even better stories!
I hope to see you outside on some missions—or better yet, join me on one!
