Slow Riders Cheeseman Weekender!
Recently, a bunch of us from 'Slow Riders' went to Mt Cheeseman in the Craigieburn ranges. Thanks to Eimear and Bob for organizing the Autum Cheesy weekender. The group a diverse mix of people who loved to ride at a comfortable pace and share their stoke of mountain biking. The trip was a great opportunity to bond and connect with new riders and make new friends and have a good laugh on the trails.
On the Saturday morning we had a pre ride briefing at the world Famous Sheffield Pie Shop. A chance for me to get my morning caffeine fix and a country chicken pie! We then decided on routes and group options.
We headed to our destination at Mistletoe flats camp site on the Broken river road. We then split into two groups,
Bob the godfather of Slowriders and I led a group on a more challenging loop The Edge and the Luge. The first hour was a slow grind up the Craigieburn ski road led by Bob he set a nice slow pace as we all enjoyed chatting to each other.
Once at the top we set of on the Edge This route is exciting and kept us on our toes as we traversed across the scree sections, in to the forest It was a heart-pumping experience, with a real sense of exposure being on the Edge! We had an absolute blast ripping up the luge track.
Bob then split off to continue on to Hogs back with a few others joining him and I continued with a few other riders to tackle Dixon's DH Track an absolute classic track in the Craigieburn ranges.
The other group led by Eimear went over Drac Flats, Hogs Back and finished up at Castlehill village. I believe the ladies and other gents on this ride had quite a laugh we heard their stories later on.
Although they enjoyed a different route, we all reunited in the evening at Mt Cheeseman Lodge. It was a great place to stay, surrounded by stunning mountains and makes an awesome sunrise in the morning. We were all looking forward to the night of banter, stories and lots of delicious food.
We gathered around the fire, and the mood was relaxed with some drinks and nibbles. We dived in to a potluck dinner that we had organized beforehand. The conversation was free-flowing, as we shared stories about our respective biking experiences and adventures. It was nice to see how each of us had something unique to contribute, and the conversation was filled with laughter and experiences from adventures.
As the night wore on, some of us had a night cap with Bob who shared some of his single malt Whiskey. I think 3 for Bob and I.
We retired to our cozy bunk rooms at the lodge, tired but content after a day of excellent riding. It was a perfect day, and we looked forward to the next morning filled with the promise of more fun and adventure.
The Slow Riders Cheeseman crew enjoyed the trip at their own pace and we all shared our love for mountain biking and adventure something that has brought us together as a group. We can't wait to plan our next adventure and hit the trails once again.
